Home track:

How did you first get into RC?:

As fate would have it, I went into a hobby store looking for RC airplane stuff the same day the Losi Sprint car came out. I had to have it. I grew up in Ohio where Sprint Car racing was more popular than going to church. I’ve been hooked ever since.

Who is a driver (local or pro) that you’ve always looked up to or learned the most from?:

Jeff Gordon

What was the first "real" RC car you ever owned or raced?:

Losi Sprint Car

Is racing a family affair for you?:

I don’t have kids yet, and my wife doesn't enjoy RC cars. So, not yet lol.

Do you enjoy the building and tuning process as much as the actual racing?:

I enjoy tuning. Squeezing out every little bit of performance out of the car to raise the competition level is super fun.

What is the one piece of equipment in your pit bag you can't live without?:

Tamiya RC Tool Kit

How many RC cars currently "live" in your garage?:

Depends who’s asking

Is there a story behind your choice of paint scheme or car number?:

Jeff Gordon is my favorite driver. Fun fact, Jeff Gordon won his first 410 sprint car race at my local track back in Ohio. Atomic Speedway. He was only 16 years old.

What is your all-time favorite memory or biggest achievement on the track?:

There’s a lot of memories from just my first year of racing. The first time winning a Losi Sprint Car race was very memorable. This was at lake city. More recently I’ve won a couple Sprint car races at Callahan’s with around 20 enteries or so. The competition was super high and it took everything I had learned in a year to just make it into the A. Winning was probably more luck than anything.

Out of everything you’ve run, which one is your absolute favorite to drive?:

I think the Losi NASCAR is the most fun. Not much stress, and they look super cool.

Is there anyone at the track you always find yourself battling with for that top spot?:

Oh yeah. Depends on the class, but there are definitely a couple guys that give me hell in traxxas modified and Losi Sprint.

What’s the #1 tip you’d give to a new driver just starting at Lake City RC?:

Decide which class you like the most. Get that car and practice practice practice. Learn from techniques that the fast guys are using to keep the car planted. Learn how to take apart the car and put it back together. Slowly but surely, as you wrench on the car, you’ll find ways to shave off lap time and improve the handling characteristics to your liking.

What is it about RC racing that keeps you coming back to the Lake City RC Club track?:

The competition. There is a heart pounding thrill that I get when it’s time to step up to the driver area and compete with everyone else. If you can mimimize mistakes, keep your speed up, and avoid eye contact you’ll be in contention for the win. Although there’s always an element of luck in racing, a majority of how well you do comes down to how you race. That’s why it’s such a thrill. You have to perform, if you want to take the gold. Otherwise, someone else is going to take advantage and fly right by. If you ain’t first, you’re last.
